Civilization VI: Run in Full Screen on macOS

Some ways to force Civilization VI into actual full screen on Mac, and how to get rid of that small launcher window.

A. Bypass the Launcher (most common fix)

That small window you see is the Aspyr launcher, not the game. Civ VI will not go full screen until the launcher is bypassed or closed. You can skip the launcher entirely:

In Steam

1. Go to Library
2. Right click Sid Meier’s Civilization VI
3. Choose Properties
4. Under General, find Launch Options

5. Enter this exactly:

   -noLauncher

Now launch the game. It should start directly in full screen (or whatever resolution mode you last used).
 

B. Switch Display Mode Inside the Game

Once the game itself is running:

1. Go to Options
2. Select Display
3. Look for Display Mode
4. Choose Full Screen instead of Windowed or Borderless Windowed
5. Apply changes and restart if asked.

Note: Civ VI likes to default to “Borderless Windowed” which looks like a window sometimes, especially on macOS.
